Satoshi Omura (80, Kitasato University Tokyo, Japan) and William C. Campbell (85. Drew University Madison, New Jersey) and Youyou Tu (85, China Academy of traditional Medicine, Beijing) jointly received the Nobel Prize for their work on a new therapy against infections caused by roundworm parasites.
The infection parasites causes are huge, almost two-third of the entire world population have some sort of parasitic decease. Especially the world's poorest population are threatened. Treatment for some of the most devastating parasitic diceases have been revolutionized. With the new treatment the parasitic roundworms are killed and have been shows to provide a cure for diceases like Malaria, river sickness and Elephantiasis.
